Histamine and Antihistaminic Agents

چکیده

Histamine is an β–imidazolylethylamine derivative that is present in essentially all mammalian tissues. The major physiological actions of histamine are centered on the cardiovascular system, nonvascular smooth muscle, exocrine glands and the adrenal medulla. In a general sense, histamine plays an important role as a “chemical messenger” component of the various pathways that have evolved in multicellular organisms allowing them to communicate efficiently and effectively. The involvement of histamine in the mediation of allergic and hypersensitivity reactions as well as in the regulation of gastric acid secretion has led to the development of important drug classes useful in the treatment of symptoms associated with allergic and gastric hypersecretory disorders.

Antihistaminic Effect of Bunium persicum on Guinea Pig Tracheal Chains

In a previous study, the relaxant and anticholinergic (functional antagonism) effects of Bunium persicum (B. persicum ) have been demonstrated on guinea pig tracheal chains. To elucidate the other mechanisms responsible for this relaxant effect, the inhibitory effect of this plant on histamine H1 receptors was examined in this study. The antihistaminic effects of aqueous and macerated extracts,...

A clinical evaluation of a piperidine compound alone, and combined with calcium intravenously in antihistamine therapy.

Similar compounds not containing this molecular configuration are devoid of histamine activity. For obvious reasons it is not only impossible but impractical to check histamine formation. Almost a quarter century ago attempts were initiated to make available an antagonist which would either successfully combat formation of histamine or nullify its effects. This presented many difficulties. Natu...

Synthesis of 1-Substituted-4-(Pyridin-4-yl) [1,2,4] Triazolo [4,3-a] Quinazolin-5(4H)-ones as a New Class of H1- Antihistaminic Agents

Purpose: To synthesize a new series of 1-substituted-4-(pyridin-4-yl) [1,2,4] triazolo[4,3-a]quinazolin5(4H)-ones and evaluate them for H1-antihistaminic activity with negligible side effects in guinea pigs. Methods: The synthesized compounds were characterized by Infrared spectroscopy (IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS) data. The purity of the compounds w...

Evaluation of Antihistaminic Activity of Dolichos Biflorus

Dolichos biflorus Linn. (FamilyFabaceae) is commonly known as ‘Horse gram’. The seeds are used in the treatment of piles, pain, constipation, wounds, urinary calculi, cough, edema, and asthma. The present study was therefore designed for evaluation of antihistaminic activity of seeds of Dolichos biflorus in the management of asthma. Antihistaminic activity of ethanolic extract of Dolichos biflo...

The Inhibition of Frostbite Wheals by the Iontophoresis of Antihistaminic Agents.

Skin whealing associated with localized frostbite is a well recognized phenomenon and has been described in detail by Lewis and his co-workers (1, 2). Although no positive evidence of histamine liberation in frostbite has been advanced, it has been postulated that histamine or a histaminelike sulbstance is involved in the formation of these lesions (2). Recently. Frommel and Picquet have report...
